Mr. Terry Xie, RDT
Mr. Terry Xie graduated from George Brown Dental Technology program in 2011. After graduation, he held positions at two dental laboratories in Toronto working in Crown and Bridge, Dentures, Ceramics and Quality Control. He joined Chrysalis Dental Centres in 2013, as part of the surgical support team, completing over 2000 full arch cases, and is now the manager of the in-house laboratory. Terry has extensive knowledge of the full arch implant treatment Concept and Zirconia / Ceramic Implant Restorations. Terry helps develop the full digital workflow for the clinic. He is experienced with full ZirkonZahn, Codiagnostix, 3 shape for face scan, smile design, CBCT pre planning, fully guided implant surgery, zirconia final full arch.
Dr. Alexander Bongard, BSc, DMD
Dr. Alexander Bongard obtained his DMD degree from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois in 2021. Since he graduated his professional interests have been solely on immediate implant solutions for single tooth and full arch patients. He has extensive experience in implant surgery as well as in the prosthetic component of implant restorations. He has been one of the key developers of an application and education center designed to mentor and allow more dentists to be able to learn and implement immediacy protocols. More recently he is focused on creating a smoother transition for young dentists to become more comfortable and confident in delivering treatment.
Dr Brian Freund, BSc, DDS, MD, FRCD(C), MCFP(C), Dip OMFS
Dr. Freund received his MD from McMaster University with his DDS and specialty training from University of Toronto. He practices as an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon at the Chrysalis Dental Centre in Toronto. His clinical interests are immediately loaded implant rehabilitation, neuromuscular dysfunction of the head and neck and minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. He was previously an examiner for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a clinical instructor at the University Of Toronto Faculty Of Dentistry. His areas of research are focused on innovative techniques in immediate implant placement and the novel applications of neuromodulators in the head and neck. He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally as well as authored numerous scientific papers.
Dr. David Powell, DMD MSc FRCD (C)
Dr. Powell received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from McGill University in 2011, followed by a General Practice Residency at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. After practicing as a general dentist at the same hospital for a year, he pursued his specialty training in Prosthodontics and a Master of Science at the University of Toronto. Currently, Dr. Powell works in private practice at Barrie Dental Specialists and Chrysalis Dental Centres. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a member of the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada and the American College of Prosthodontists. Passionate about digital dentistry and guided implant surgery, Dr. Powell leverages advanced technology to deliver precise, minimally invasive treatments. He also provides complex restorative services for patients with worn or eroded dentitions and specializes in full arch implant restorations.
Dr Effie Habsha, BSc, DDS, Dip. Prostho., MSc, FRCDC
Dr. Effie Habsha earned her DDS, Diploma in Prosthodontics and Master of Science degrees from the University of Toronto. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Department of Dentistry, Eastman Institute for Oral Health at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Habsha has served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and currently instructs both at the undergraduate and graduate level in Prosthodontics at U of T. She is also the founder of Women in Dentistry: Work.Life.Balance, a group created in 2010 for women in dentistry which aims to educate, empower and connect all women in the dental field. Dr. Habsha maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics in Toronto and lectures nationally and internationally on various prosthodontic and surgical topics
John P. Zarb BA, DDS, MSc (Prostho), FRCDC
Dr. John P. Zarb earned his DDS at the University of Detroit Mercy in 1995. Upon graduation, he completed a one-year General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, followed by graduate prosthodontic training at the University of Toronto, earning his MSc in 2002. Dr. Zarb is a staff prosthodontist at Mt Sinai Hospital in Toronto and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester, Eastman Institute for Oral Health. He has been involved with surgical and prosthetic implant dentistry education at both the undergraduate and graduate level and serves as the co-Director of Genesis, Continuing Dental Education, and the Dental Community Resource. Dr. Zarb joined Barrie Dental Specialists in 2003. He is a Fellow, former examiner and Prosthodontics Director, and currently Registrar of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a Fellow in the Academy of Dentistry International, and Fellow in the Academy of Prosthodontics, a Regional Councilor for the Association of Prosthodontists of Canada and the Ontario Dental Association, and a former Director of the American College of Prosthodontists.
Dr. Manor Haas, DDS, Cert. Endo., MSc.(D), FRCD(C)
Dr. Haas is a certified specialist in endodontics and is extensively involved in continuing education (webinars, lectures and workshops) to general dentists and specialists. He is on staff at the Hospital for Sick Children Department of Dentistry and maintains a full time private practice limited to Endodontics and Microsurgery in Toronto. Dr. Haas is a regular contributor to dental magazines and websites and has lectured internationally on nearly all aspects of modern endodontics. He has no financial or proprietary interest in any product or company. Dr. Haas is extensively involved in education via social media and goes by the Instagram handle @TheDentalPlumber.
Dr. Marc Bongard received his DMD degree from Boston University and then went on to do a post-graduate residency program in dental anesthesiology at NYU-Lutheran Hospital, a level 1 trauma center in Brooklyn, New York. He is a recognized specialist in Dental Anesthesiology by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Dental Anesthesiology. Dr. Bongard is an associate clinical professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in the Anesthesia Department. His training included extensive experience providing anesthesia for pediatric, special needs, and medically compromised patients. He has provided general anesthesia and moderate sedation for thousands of patients undergoing restorative and dental implant procedures.
Dr. Ousama Damlaj DMD, MSc(Prostho), FRCDC Dr. Ousama Damlaj received his bachelor’s degree in Physiology and his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from McGill University. After graduation, he completed a General Practice Residency (GPR) in New York and then moved to Ottawa to work as a general dentist. After years of working as a general dentist, Dr. Damlaj decided to continue learning and pursue his passion by enrolling in and completing the Graduate Prosthodontics Program at the University of Toronto. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Damlaj has been the recipient of various scholarships and research grants including the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, Industrial NSERC Scholarship, Nobel Biocare Research Fellowship in Prosthodontics, and the Dentsply Sirona Research Fellowship in Prosthodontics. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) and the National Dental Examination Board of Canada (NDEB). He is also a non-council committee member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), a board member of the Professional Liability Program (PLP), and a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Undergraduate Research (CJUR). Dr. Damlaj takes pleasure in providing a high level of treatment to his patients with his gentle touch and extensive technical skills. He specifically enjoys providing patients with full mouth rehabilitations to restore their smile and improve their self-esteem. He is very approachable and treats all his patients equally with care and respect. In his spare time, Dr. Damlaj enjoys running and biking as well as lecturing and attending various seminars and meetings to stay up to date on latest developments in the field of Prosthodontics. Dr. Damlaj also loves spending time with his wife and 2 children, who inspire him to help more people everyday.
Dr. Philip Walton, DDS, MMSc, FRCD(C), US Board Certified, Diplomate of Periodontics
Dr. Philip Walton earned his DDS degree from the University of Toronto. He completed externships at the University of Michigan and overseas at King’s College London School of Medicine and Dentistry in London, England and completed his Masters of Medical Sciences degree in Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Walton is a Fellow of the Royal College of Canada. He is a member of the surgical team at Chrysalis Dental Centres in Toronto where he has been focusing on the placement and immediate loading of dental implants as well as enhancing techniques for the development and maintenance of predictable soft tissue results in relation to dental implant placement and restoration. Dr. Walton is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry at University of Toronto, where he participates in the clinical and didactic training of undergraduate dental students. He also continues to maintain a strong affiliation to Harvard as a past clinical instructor, admissions committee member and active alumnus.
Dr Steven Bongard, DDS
Dr Steven Bongard obtained his DDS degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1986. His professional interest has been concentrated on all aspects of implant dentistry since 1995. He has extensive experience in implant placement, bone grafting procedures as well as the prosthetic component of implant restoration. He has published and lectured both nationally and internationally on implant placement, full arch rehabilitation and non-grafted immediate approaches to implant surgery. He presently maintains a dental practice in Toronto, Ontario that is exclusive to the placement and restoration of dental implants. His recent focus has been on developing a community resource and training centre that can provide access to innovation, technology and advanced infrastructure, as well as support and mentoring, to the dental implant community.
Mr. Paul Sims graduated as a Registered Nurse from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology-Nursing Division in 1982 and immediately began working at North York General Hospital on the Adolescent Surgery and Pediatric Isolation ward. He then transferred to the Emergency Department a year later where he worked in all aspects of the department. In 1985, Paul joined the practice of a Toronto based Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon where he was responsible for both the Clinical and Business aspects of the practice for 28 years. Since July of 2013 Paul has been a Sedation Assistant for Chrysalis Dental Centres in Toronto. Paul has been an active volunteer member of the St. John Ambulance since 1974 and is currently a Commander in the Order of St. John. He has volunteered at almost every level and has held almost every leadership role in the organization. His current duty at St. John Ambulance is Chair of the Ontario Medical First Responder Competition Committee.
Ms. Flora Santos, CDA II
Ms. Flora Santos is a NDAEB certified level II dental assistant with over 28 years of chairside experience. She has focused her career on dento-alveolar surgery and has assisted in thousands of implant surgeries. She is the Clinical Coordinator at Chrysalis Dental Centre, responsible for staff training, implant and prosthetic inventories and all aspects of aseptic surgical techniques. She has vast experience in implant placement protocols and components necessary for successful implementation of the surgical and prosthetic aspects of implant care.
Ms. Michelle Ryckman
Ms. Michelle Ryckman has extensive experience in the development and execution of treatment presentation protocols for dental offices. Her approach is simple, no-pressure, comfortable and has proven to yield incredibly high case acceptance. It focuses on communication with patients and building structured relationships. Ms. Ryckman has lectured extensively throughout North America and Europe on the development of an orchestrated customer journey as the cornerstone of case acceptance. Ms. Ryckman is currently responsible for helping other dentists within our community with the development and implementation of strategies for practice growth.
